This is technical and administrative work in the City’s Fleet Department, supporting a garage maintenance and repair operation facility and coordinating the citywide procurement and inventory of a variety of vehicles and related equipment, parts, tools, and supplies. Work includes researching, evaluating, recommending and preparing specifications for the procurement of equipment and vehicles (including cars, trucks, public safety vehicles, sanitation trucks/equipment, construction vehicles, grounds maintenance and heavy off-road equipment); facilitating and coordinating vehicle acquisitions and dispositions and the changeover process with City departments; ensuring proper, timely requisitions, transactions and recordkeeping; and preparing, processing and maintaining records of vehicles and equipment licenses, titles, registrations, renewal applications, and all specifications for the City fleet. Work also involves researching, recommending, and preparing specifications for analyzing usage trends, outages and computer data; inspecting equipment and vehicles to recommend continued use or replacement; monitoring vehicles with GPS, to include identifying and reporting speed violations and service issues; ordering, monitoring and analyzing the fuel and the usage rates; and maintaining the fuel database system for State reporting.

Salary: $25.30 - $38.76 Hourly

To Qualify


Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver license.
  • Have some training or experience in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment trades including knowledge of technical specifications and requisition work.
  • Have considerable skill in the use and operation of computer equipment to research, input and retrieve inventory, parts, maintenance, equipment, purchasing and GPS information.
  • Have considerable knowledge of vehicle equipment, technical specifications and component parts, and store keeping procedures.
  • Have prior experience in acquisition and requisition work, including the maintenance of records, preferably related to fleet management.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Be able to use considerable discretion, tact and diplomacy when working with department users and external vendors.
  • Be able to proficiently use Microsoft Word, create spreadsheets and use Microsoft Excel, and have knowledge of fleet software applications.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have completed two (2) years of college coursework supplemented by technical school training in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment trades.
  • Have thorough knowledge of City and department regulations and procedures, including those related to purchasing and requisitioning.
  • Have considerable knowledge of motorized vehicles and equipment and their respective functions and operations.
  • Have knowledge of acquisition and disposition procedures related to government equipment.
  • Are able to accurately interpret data from a computerized inventory system and to maintain, audit, analyze and reconcile a variety of reports.
  • Have some supervisory experience.
