POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing & Communications Associate plays a vital role in amplifying the mission and impact of Safe Parking LA by driving its digital presence and communication strategies. This role combines digital marketing, social media management, graphic design, and email campaign production to engage donors, stakeholders, and the wider community to advance our mission and values to end vehicular homelessness.
WHAT YOUR DAYS CONSIST OF
Digital Marketing and Online Presence (40%)
  • Implement and manage Safe Parking LA’s digital marketing initiatives across social media platforms, website, and digital venues provided by the organization and affiliates.
  • Create and share engaging content tailored to communication channels, audience segments, and the organization’s branding guidelines.
  • Track and analyze website, social media, and email campaign performance metrics to optimize strategies.
  • Maintain and update website content, ensuring timely updates and enhancements.
  • Maintain the organization’s communications calendar.
  • Oversee and manage special initiatives to support the advancement of the digital strategy as required.

Graphic Design and Content Creation (40%)
  • Design visually compelling graphics, infographics, and multimedia content for digital and print mediums.
  • Source and organize content assets, such as photos, videos, and success stories for donor outreach, development materials, and communications campaigns.
  • Assist with special communications and media projects, as needed.

General Support (20%)
  • Provide first-line monitoring and response for social media interactions, escalating critical engagements to the Director of Development.
  • Other duties within the development department as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in an office setting, preferably in nonprofit development or communications.
  • Strong skills in graphic design.
  • Proficiency with social media, website, and email marketing platforms and analytics tools.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading and editing.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Reliable transportation for moderate travel within the Los Angeles area.
  • Enthusiasm for Safe Parking LA’s mission and ability to effectively communicate its values.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Background check (Live Scan) required by funding and regulatory agency.
  • COVID-19 vaccination and TB clearance are required by funding and regulatory agencies.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to write participant data accurately, cohesive reports, and professional correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from your supervisor, participants, Safe Parking LA teammates, partner organizations, and the public.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret organizational procedures, governmental regulations, and news alerts from public agencies.
  • Ability to respond effectively and compassionately to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Spanish or other language skills, highly desirable.

REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Hiring Rate: $26/ hour
  • Benefits include medical insurance, life insurance coverage, 403(b) plan with employer match after one year, pet care plan, paid holidays, sick days, and vacation, scheduled “soft close,” and a range of professional development opportunities including AFP membership.
  • Laptop computers and cell phones are provided, plus a monthly stipend for technology and home office needs.

SCHEDULE
  • This is a part-time, non-exempt role with an average of 20 hours per week, and the possibility to work up to 30 hours with approval. The schedule is flexible. Work outside of normal business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, is expected.
  • Hybrid position with remote and on-site work at Safe Parking LA office and safe parking program location.
  • Specific in-office and remote days and hours to be determined by development leadership.

Safe Parking LA conducts three (3) rounds of interviews, consisting of a 30-minute screening, 1-hour virtual interview with department members, and an in-person interview at the main office.
