Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Dental Program Managers and Health Center Managers, in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Dental Assistant will assist Dental Practitioners in rendering patient care during clinic visits by performing routine technical and clerical tasks. This includes providing chairside assistance, charting, operatory maintenance, and inventory control at multiple Children’s Aid locations including community health centers and school-based health centers.

Essential Duties:

  • Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all patients, visitors, guests, and co-workers receive personalized prompt attention and are treated with dignity, respect and utmost confidentiality.
  • Provide chairside assistance to the clinician, including charting, suctioning, passing and receiving instruments, mixing materials, taking X-rays, and processing results in the system.
  • Maintain the dental operatory, equipment and instruments according to infection control and sterilization protocols.
  • Act as a patient advocate, schedule and confirm patient appointments, and maintain a preventive recall system.
  • Work cooperatively with other program staff to facilitate access and treatment of School and Agency on-site children.
  • Complete all appropriate sections of patient records and maintain patient data as assigned.
  • Maintain an inventory of dental supplies, submit procurement requests, and process invoices according to established procedures.
  • Review and respond to communications (e.g., emails and Telephone Encounters) daily, in a timely manner.
  • Keep the Dentist, Health Center Managers, or designee(s) updated on current issues and/or problems related to the role’s responsibilities or the Center’s environment.
  • Assist with the clinic’s clerical duties as assigned by Health Center Managers or designee(s).
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, events, quality improvement, and other initiatives.
  • Comply with all privacy laws including HIPAA and other regulatory laws and guidance.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate (GED) required.
  • Graduate of accredited Dental Assistant Program.
  • Minimum one-year experience as a dental assistant preferred.
Key Competencies:
  • Work effectively and enthusiastically with children, adolescents, families, and persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
