Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of People Operations, the Talent Development & Training Specialist (TD&TS) will work collaboratively with leadership and partners to develop and implement identified training plans for Covenant House Alaska (CHA). This position is responsible for administering and overseeing the roadmap of staff training and development needs, and for planning, organizing, and overseeing appropriate training. The TD&TS is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating internal and external trainings for all staff in coordination with respective departments.
The TD&TS will oversee database and identified Learning Management Systems (LMS) for accuracy, administration, and to ensure all members of the workforce are in compliance with identified training completion.
Essential Functions
- Work in collaboration with CHA directors to identify organizational training needs.
- Administer and oversee the training development structure within the identified Program Model roadmap.
- Facilitate identified key trainings for the Agency including but not limited to; New Hire Orientation, Naloxone Administration, Foundational Approaches, and other relevant program-based training.
- Work with directors to develop an adaptable structure and curriculum that fits within CHA’s training model.
- Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, or consultations with supervisors or facilitators.
- Assist trainers and facilitators to deliver training to employees using a variety of instructional techniques.
- Assist in evaluating training needs and training facilitators.
- Perform administrative tasks such as monitoring costs, setting up virtual systems and equipment, establishing contracts with outside training providers.
- Ensure employee compliance through managing documentation requirements, managing/auditing various databases, and other tracking mechanisms to report on identified outcomes and ensure adherence to training plans.
- As directed, complete special projects and other projects/duties as identified by the directors’ team.
- Participate in staff meetings, development activities, and attend conferences as requested by supervisor.
- Understand, practice, and promote the vision, mission, and five principles of Covenant House Alaska.
- Ensure the safety of youth seen by CHA at all times by demonstrating appropriate boundaries and establishing competencies around working in a space serving vulnerable youth.
- Keep supervisor fully informed at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma required; further education in Social Service, Psychology Counseling, Business, Education, or a related field is preferred. Education or training in Human/Social Service best practices considered an asset.
Experience
Two or more years’ experience with delivering, administering, or overseeing training within a non-profit or human/social services environment considered an asset.
Experience with working with adolescent or disadvantaged populations preferred; lived experience, volunteer, and internship experience will be considered.
Lived experience of homelessness considered an asset
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Understand and comply with all Agency policies and procedures, including Child Protection Policies.
- Understand and comply with all principles of Trauma-Informed Care; willingness to acquire basic concepts in care coordination for adolescents and young adults and incorporate in service-provision.
- Is approachable, relatable, builds rapport well, and practices active listening with individuals of varied cultural backgrounds, embracing differences in behavior and lifestyle choices.
- Knowledge of theories and practices of adult learning principals, and experience utilizing various methods of instruction for adult learners.
- Ability to use individualized approaches to motivate staff to achieve their goals
- Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities
- Organizational abilities conducive to supporting curriculum, keeping supplies inventoried and stocked, and tracking and reporting of grant funded purchases
- Knowledge of community and social service resources that may impact and benefit content delivered to staff
- Knowledge or experience in crisis intervention as it pertains to training and development understanding of direct service positions.
- Ability to relate with and provide instruction to a diverse group of individuals with varying backgrounds and life circumstances
- Can maintain confidentiality while adhering to and complying with requirements of mandated reporting, duty to warn, HIPAA, and other limits to confidentiality.
- Willingness to utilize training opportunities in support of personal and professional growth to increase the overall capacity of the workforce in service delivery.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with standard computer operating systems; ability to navigate Microsoft Office suite, online databases, and other programs and websites as required.
- Willingness and ability to work outside of normal business hours as well as holidays and weekends, as needed.
- Willingness and ability to attain a CPR/First Aid Certification
- Possess a current and valid Driver’s License
- Acceptable driving record assessed through CHA’s Drivers Acceptability Matrix.
- Pass federal, state, and local background check investigations.
Working Conditions
- Position will work in a variety of settings, both program and residential, to provide training to staff.
- Noise level is mild to moderate, consistent with office and residential environments.
- Must have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Must have the ability to observe details within close range.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to move within the office to access files and office equipment.
- Consistently operates a computer and related office machinery.
- Must be able to ascend/descend stairways within a wide variety of facilities both commercial and residential, with and possibly without the assistance of an elevator.
- Occasionally moves items up to 40 pounds while ascending/descending stairways for position-related activities.
