Position Summary

The Leadership Experience Coordinator is responsible for effective overall camp program management of the PA/CIT (Program Aide/Counselor In Training) program within GSGLA guidelines and objectives. The Leadership Experience Coordinator will supervise the PA/CIT program by supporting the safety and procedures of campers, assisting in the development of innovative Girl Scout Leadership curriculum, and overseeing the planning and scheduling of activities implemented by PA/CITs. The Leadership Experience Coordinator will also alternate as the lead staff during the camps Before Care/After Care programs.

El Ranchito Day Camp

Tucked away in the charming suburbs of Long Beach, El Ranchito is a tree-lined high adventure day camp, where campers are encouraged to take safe risks that boost bravery and promote goal setting. Exciting, confidence-building outdoor activities include archery, low ropes, and a 32-foot climbing tower.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of El Ranchito Leadership program to meet the intended older girl leadership outcomes.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for CITs and PAs within the mission and outcomes.
    • Serve as a role model to all by demonstrating high standards of personal conduct including punctuality, sportsmanship, sharing chores, and clean up duties.
    • Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
    • Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities.
    • Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
    • Maintain healthy communication with CITs and PAs through the designated communication platform.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for camp participants and staff.
    • Provide the daily care of each camp participant within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
    • Ensure that participants receive their medications as directed by the Health and Inclusion Supervisor.
    • Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems and discuss with the Health and Inclusion Specialist and/or the Outdoor Program Supervisor when appropriate.
    • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to the Camp Experience Manager.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
    • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
    • Set a good example to campers and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver evening programs, special events, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
    • Attend and participate in daily meetings.
    • Provide check in/out support and provide outstanding customer service to families.
  • Responsible for taking care of special programming equipment and supplies.
    • Evaluates and reports as requested by the Outdoor Program Supervisor.
  • Lead Extended Care programs for campers.
    • Create and implement before/after care programs for campers who require supervision outside of traditional camp hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be 18 years of age or be a high school graduate by the start of camp.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks of day camp (June 18, 2025 - August 22, 2025) and training dates that will be scheduled prior to camp.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid Certification throughout the position's employment dates. Training will be available.
  • Must have documented experience teaching or interacting with youth program.
  • Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically.
  • Must possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.

Recommended Education, Training and Experience

  • College credits in health, child development, education, psychology, or related field.

GSGLA Employee Requirements

  • Comply with state-mandated reporter training.
  • Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned.

Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles requires its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to certain exemptions as required by law. New hires working at Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles must be fully vaccinated upon hire.
