This is custodial work at the crew chief supervisory level. Employees in this class have a shift responsibility for a crew performing custodial work on public buildings and surrounding grounds. Work involves conditions which can be partially controlled, requires physical effort, and may be performed in inclement weather conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level custodial or maintenance supervisor.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Training, Education & Experience

The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests.

  • ANTICIPATED ELIGIBILITY
    Candidates who meet all eligibility requirements within 6 months of the application deadline (JUNE 22, 2025) will be admitted to this examination. Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list but may not be hired or promoted until all requirements have been satisfied.
  • CIVIL SERVICE STATUS:
    Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status and a Performance Rating of Satisfactory or higher.
  • EDUCATION:
    Completion of the tenth school grade.
  • GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
    One year of experience performing custodial work.
  • SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:
    One year of experience performing custodial work serving in a lead worker capacity over a small number of custodial workers, or as a Window Washer, or related experience as a Semi-skilled Laborer in a custodial assignment for public or institutional buildings and surrounding grounds.
    OR
    Two years as a Custodial Worker 2 in the Airport.
Physical & Medical Requirements

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

Required Licenses & Certifications

Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment as a Custodial Work Crew Chief, if required by work assignment. Positions in the Airport must be able to pass and maintain SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) and AOA (Airfield Operations Area) clearance.

Equivalency Statement(s): Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources.
