USC Annenberg Press seeks a Webmaster to oversee the International Journal of Communication’s (IJoC) transition to a new platform, maintain the new platform, manage system updates for the IJoC system and Annenberg Press website, create and distribute promotional blurbs, perform system training, and complete some graphic design to support the upgrade and ongoing web needs.

The International Journal of Communication is an online, multi-media, academic journal that adheres to the highest standards of peer review and engages established and emerging scholars from anywhere in the world. The journal is interdisciplinary and open to contributions from various disciplines meeting at the crossroads of communication study. According to 2024 statistics from Google Scholar, IJoC ranks 7th among all Humanities, Literature & Arts journals, and 9th among Communication journals globally. Its H-index of 29 indicates at least 2,074 articles with 6,426 or more citations over the last five years.

Key Functions
  • Provide technical support for the Annenberg Press and IJoC websites, monitoring performance, uptime, and analytics; diagnosing issues; administering hosting; editing content; and troubleshooting data loss issues.
  • Manage and complete IJoC’s migration to a new platform.
  • Maintain IJoC’s website’s mass email functionality, sending announcements to nearly 6,000 authors, with plans to expand to nearly 100,000 users.
  • Ensure up-to-date backups of the IJoC website and manage article asset files.
  • Check IJoC article references in Google Scholar and address spam issues.
  • Recommend new services, software, and processes to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Analyze, design, implement, and maintain technical solutions and multimedia content for a school or department website.
  • Coordinate the organization of data with faculty and staff, typically without handling content development.
  • Troubleshoot system errors and maintain website integrity and compliance with university standards.
  • Consult with staff to design and implement web pages and interactive systems, advising on production and design techniques.
  • Integrate multimedia content with educational software applications and coordinate integration processes.
  • Research and analyze data for trends, presenting results as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge of university computing environments and experience with web scripting, programming languages, and open source technologies.
  • At least two years of web development and website management experience; experience as a webmaster for an academic journal preferred.
  • Proficiency in the LAMP stack and managing open source content management systems.
  • Basic design skills and a degree in a related field preferred.
