Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Established in 2012, the School of Medicine’s Community Health Programs (CHP) focus on leading efforts to improve health care and eliminate health disparities for underserved and at-risk populations by addressing challenges associated with the use of research to achieve more evidence-based practice in health care and fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue. As a member of the Center for Translational Science Institute leadership team, the associate director leads diverse and complex programs and functions that require high accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality. Under the direction of the Center for Translational Science Institute co-director develops and leads Community Health Programs, timelines, and budgets across multiple institutions.

Leading local, regional, statewide, and multi-state initiatives, Community Health Programs focuses on solving complex healthcare problems by motivating providers to use effective treatments in routine practice to improve patient outcomes and transform health care by developing and guiding processes to translate research into practice through innovative models of education and outreach, in partnership with health systems, healthcare providers, state and federal agencies, public and private organizations, end users (e.g. patients, consumers or community populations) of the implemented evidence-based practices, and urban and rural community-based organizations.

The associate director develops, leads, and manages program personnel and participants, deliverables and timelines, budgets, and reporting requirements.

Oversees the functionality of a broad range of Community Health Programs teams and working groups, both internal and external and continuous quality improvement, meets all key objectives, ensures workflow to implement the strategic direction of Community Health Programs, develops strategies and plans to achieve and measure goals in all programmatic areas, including information technology and data analytics to inform, modify and evolve strategies for success.

Supervises and oversees internal program teams, connects individuals and partners across Community Health Programs to build a cohesive brand and strong support base, leads and supervises personnel and program participants to produce program deliverables that are engaging and unique for targeted audiences.

Oversees and organizes teams of subject matter experts, writers, and editors and channels of dissemination including Community Health Programs’ digital platforms, e.g., websites, online resources, social media outlets, podcasts, newsletters, email communications, webinars, virtual learning, development of augmented/virtual reality, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Design, implement, and oversee large, innovative, and complex programs representing $8-$12M million annually, that comprise FTEs from many institutions and partners in the State of Ohio. Plan and execute all daily operations and Community Health Programs teams. Hire, mentor, and supervise Community Health Programs personnel. Collaborate with sponsors, content experts, and production teams to determine relevant issues, priorities, content, and topics. Plan and lead workflow for administrators and team members. Lead processes and procedures to ensure compliance with policies and sponsor requirements.
  • Lead process to develop/produce deliverables and program offerings and meet all program timelines, in conjunction with the Center for Clinical Investigation and its extended Community Health Programs network, serving as the primary lead for program teams. Responsible for developing and implementing scopes of work, including production schedules, processes, workflow, and policies set in conjunction with the Center for Clinical Investigation and Community Health Programs leadership to meet concurrent deadlines.
  • Responsible for oversight and operations of Community Health Programs including all internal and external personnel, functions and components, web-based systems, and administration. Identify and develop funding opportunities and lead grant proposals for future programs and initiatives with an emphasis on population and community health and evidence-based practices. Develop and oversee grant budgets, expenditures, and overall financial performance. Ensure compliance with all grant-related policies.
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Participate in national, state, and community meetings, conferences, committees, and task forces as required. Works in conjunction with appropriate departments at the university.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
CONTACTS

Department: Contact with all levels of departmental faculty and staff to maintain workflow.

University: Regular contact with the Office of the Vice Dean for Translational Research Office, government relations, and communications to exchange information.

External: Daily contact with partners, government leadership, and other private and nonprofit entities.

Students: Little or no contact with students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Supervises internal and external program staff including senior project manager, communications, web/IT, graphic design, and as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 8+ years of relevant management/supervisory experience in a corporate or nonprofit organization; a healthcare setting is a plus.

Education: Bachelor’s degree; Master's degree preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Some local and statewide travel. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Hybrid Eligibility

This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor.
