Judicial Services SpecialistÂ

The salary grade for this position is NC05. Â State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. Â If selected for this position, a new salary will be calculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability and internal equity. Â Based on these factors, a pay increase or decrease may result.

Position will perform the current duties of a Judicial Services Coordinator (JSC), as well as being in direct control of work assignments for personnel within the area which will include court processing, assignment of cases to Judicial Services Coordinators, and monitoring caseloads thru CSAS to maintain a balance among staff. Â Position will determine assignment process and make adjustments in order to meet demands of the court. Â Position will ensure that case data is accurately reflected in OPUS and CSAS. Â Position will make certain that cases are processed timely and accurately.

Incumbent will be responsible for review and approval of staff work within the unit. This entails:

  • Reviewing community service contacts,
  • Placement and offender performance,
  • Tracking and court processing,
  • Performing case reviews to ensure effective services, appropriate follow up and adherence to Community Supervision policy,
  • Complete performance appraisals on assigned JSCs,
  • Time approval.

Position will review proposed recipient agencies for appropriateness according to Community Supervision policy and guidelines.

Incumbent is frequently in court and will associate with judges, lawyers, district attorneys, clerk of court, law enforcement, etc.

Incumbent must have knowledge of

  • Local/regional community resources to address the placement of monitored offenders,
  • Structured sentencing and how it applies to Community Supervision,
  • Sanctions that are available that will target the offender's needs,
  • A variety of software applications to perform data entry and research regarding offenders.

Must have the ability to

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with the judiciary officials and general public,
  • Behave in a professional manner at all times. This job holds a highly visible position with Community Supervision,
  • Work as member of a team on variety of activities to include court intake,
  • Work independently and receive direction from Chief Probation/Parole officer.

Must possess exceptional time management and organizational skills and work under stressful situations.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor s degree in criminal justice, human services, psychology or related field of study from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience as a Judicial Services Coordinator or other directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience; or Associate s degree in criminal justice, human services, psychology, or related field of study from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience as a Judicial Services Coordinator or other directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience as a Judicial Services Coordinator or other directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
