Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Adhering to federal, state, and local laws related to drug dispensing and patient information.
Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to health system, pharmacy, and accreditation policies.
Demonstrating business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
Understanding the legal limitations of pharmacy technicians and referring problems to a pharmacist.
Prioritizing job duties, communicating effectively, and documenting patient information.
Maintaining a clean and organized work environment and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
Serving as a teacher and trainer for new pharmacists and technicians.
Responsibilities also include:
Obtaining patient information, accurately entering prescription data, and assisting with insurance claims processing.
Communicating with providers, preparing prescription orders, and ensuring accurate dispensing.
Packaging medications, performing point-of-sale duties, and delivering medications to patient care areas.
Maintaining pharmacy inventory, navigating software, and completing quality assurance checklists.
In the clinic, responsibilities include:
Engaging with clinic staff to promote health system owned specialty pharmacy services.
Explaining benefits, processing prior authorizations, and explaining financial responsibilities to patients.
Conducting outbound patient calls, identifying additional patient supplies, and documenting patient communication.
Requirements include:
A high school diploma or equivalent, with three to five years of retail pharmacy or specialty pharmacy experience preferred.
Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy and certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent.
