Rebound is the largest orthopedic and neurosurgical practice in the Portland-Vancouver area with an array of sub-specialties including orthopedics, brain and spine care, sports medicine, physiatry, and physical therapy. We are looking for a full time Orthopedic Technician to join our amazing Casting team at our Rose Quarter location. The ideal candidate will possess great organizational skills and energy, a can-do attitude, a desire to learn the practice, and a collaborative team spirit. The candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal skills, a superior commitment to patient care, and the ability to work closely with patients and physicians. This position will be based out of our Rose Quarter, OR location, though some travel will be required between our all locations as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Application and removal of all types of casting. Both with fiberglass and plaster orthoplast materials and splinting techniques.
  • Knowledge of traction frames and equipment setups and removals.
  • Fracture reduction preparations, techniques and follow-up care.
  • Surgical procedures, preparations techniques and follow-up care.
  • Knowledge of supplies and purchasing (anticipate clinical volumes and proper stock levels). Coordinate activities with Accounting Manager, various vendors and types of equipment.
  • Instruct patients in proper usage of supplies and application.
  • Proper coding of all dispensed supplies and equipment for charging purposes.
  • Escort patients, take vital signs and assist in patient flow through the clinic.
  • Perform a variety of tests. Perform CPR, if needed.
  • Prepare exam and surgery rooms and instruments. Stock supplies and sterilize instruments. Strip, clean and sterilize equipment and rooms after procedures.
  • Label and maintain proper storage for specimens and tests. Deliver tests and obtain results. Ensure that lab reports, x-rays, etc. are in patient records.
  • Assist physicians and surgeons in treating patients. Clean wounds, apply and change dressings and bandages.
  • Issue out-patient materials. Assist in application and patient instruction.
  • Answer telephone, provide information and schedule appointments.
  • Attend required meetings, in-services, and participate in committees as requested.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and abide by all HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Graduate from an Orthopedic Technician program or on the job training with NBCOT certification. Other education and experience will be considered in lieu of recommended qualifications.
  • BLS Certification.
  • NBCOT Certification preferred, but not required.
  • Two years of work experience, preferably in a clinic setting.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices techniques of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care and treatment.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instruments to clean, decontaminate, wrap and sterilize.
  • Skill in assisting in a variety of treatment, medications and surgical procedures as directed.
  • Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
