Direct Support Professional

We are currently looking for Direct Support Professionals (DSP's) at Maliyah’s Place. The DSP is focused on helping adults with developmental disabilities complete daily tasks and stay safe at the day program. Their main duties include supervising and assisting consumers through daily activities, transporting them to and from the facility, and keeping them safe from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment.
Direct Support Professionals report to the Administrator and are responsible for creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere for their consumer. They work closely with the consumer to enhance their decision-making skills and encourage them to engage in more activities that will help strengthen their physical and mental health. Direct Support Professionals teach consumers how to complete certain tasks on their own to promote a more independent and satisfying lifestyle.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for training, care and supervision of participants.
• Follow all HCBS guidelines and adhere to person-centered plans.
• Assisting clients through their daily schedule of activities including the activities of daily living (ADL) such as personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, feeding, and mobility.
• Assist in preparing lunches and lunch supervision.
• Assist with training activities such as sensory, communication, socialization, motor skills
• Carrying out instruction activities in accordance with each participant IPP.
• Collecting and maintaining data and charts of individual’s progress and communicate with clients.
• Encouraging individual’s engagement in activities.
• Driving clients to and from the day program.
• Other duties as necessary.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Attention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols and rules while carefully following instructions to care for the needs of the client.
• Integrity to ensure clients feel safe and comfortable when tending to personal activities.
• Trustworthiness and dependability so clients and their families feel comfortable relying on them.
• Interpersonal skills when working with clients, including having compassion and being sensitive to their emotional needs when they are in extreme distress or pain.
• Physical stamina when performing tasks such as lifting or turning their clients.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· DSP 1 & DSP 2 certification preferred.
· Certifications: First Aid, CPR, and CPI
· 1-2 years’ experience working with developmentally disabled adults.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
This position requires finger printing, a DOJ criminal background clearance, satisfactory reference checks, health screening, and negative TB test.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to regularly:
· Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
· Stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and
· Hear, talk, smell and taste
· Walk, kneel, crouch, or crawl (or jog/run occasionally)
· Sit, climb or balance
