Butcher/Meat Cutter

We are expanding our team as we are in the middle of a busy fall season Butcher Block 66 looking for a skilled multi-species butcher. We process beef, pork, lamb, venison, and other wild game. The Butcher/Meat Cutter will cut meat, process meat products, and work as a slaughter day assistant. It is essential that all of our employees share our commitment to humane slaughter practices and techniques.
Butchering is a unique mix of a trade and an art. We are willing to teach the right candidates If you are a good teammate who works well with others, works hard, and takes pride in their work…you’re our kind of person. Being able to communicate and take feedback is also important.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be willing to learn to use a knife, saw, hook, and other equipment to carry out specialized tasks, remove skin, process a carcass, etc.
- Inspect meat products for defects, bruises, blemishes, etc. and remove them along with excess fat
- Process meat products following our operating procedures and quality expectations
- Pull/box orders, and stock freezers
- Keep shop, storage areas, and office organized and clean while maintaining a safe working environment
- Maintain communication with customers including taking customer cutting instructions
- Willingness to learn various meat cuts and cooking styles
- Prioritize job safety, food safety, and the highest overall quality
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: high school or equivalent
- Must be 18 years or older
- Capable of operating our smokehouse and making processed meats
- Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced environment
- Must wear all safety equipment required
- Other: Working in cool, warm, wet and/or humid environments; moving mechanical parts; standing for long stretches of time; frequently lift 50+ pounds; use of certain PPE required in the facility
JOB TYPE
- Full-time or Part-time day shifts are available between 7AM-7PM Monday through Friday
- Weekend hours available if interested
- Overtime is available, but not at all expected or mandatory
- Our management is flexible in setting work schedules for the right candidate
