Job Title: Electrical Test Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Test Engineer with a background in electrical testing, particularly within heavy industries or utilities. This role requires hands-on experience with electrical equipment testing, inspecting, and calibrating various systems to ensure optimal and safe performance. You will prepare, configure, and test instrument transformers, work with a variety of testing equipment, and provide certified test reports. This role emphasizes maintaining a safe work environment, with involvement in continuous improvement activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical testing, preferably within heavy industries or utilities, or equivalent education/experience.
- Broad practical experience as an electrician or service technician for electrical equipment.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Skilled in using inspection tools, test instruments, and related equipment.
- Basic computer skills, particularly within MS Office.
- Physically able to work at various heights (ground level to 6 feet or more).
- Willing to work overtime, including weekends, as required.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Technical experience with voltage transformers within the utility industry.
- Associate degree in electrical or related technical field from a recognized institution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up instrument transformers for testing, ensuring a safe testing environment.
- Interpret blueprints, diagrams, and engineering specifications to execute tests on equipment and parts.
- Use a variety of testing equipment, such as voltmeters, ammeters, oscilloscopes, and wave analyzers, to conduct tests on manufactured parts.
- Perform various required tests and calculations (e.g., turn test, polarity, DC resistance, impedance, load loss, insulation resistance).
- Adjust test circuits and configure equipment for each test type.
- Calibrate meters and reject non-conforming materials or assemblies.
- Maintain test schedules according to customer needs and submit certified test report drafts to engineering.
- Conduct repairs and maintain test equipment, fabricating parts as necessary.
- Apply general electrical knowledge to ensure safe operation of test equipment.
- Execute post-testing duties, including equipment and cable removal.
- Promote and participate in safety initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
- Guide and train other team members as needed.
- Operate cranes, power lifts, and other material-handling equipment.
- Support Quality, Production, and Engineering departments as necessary.
- Maintain accurate time records using Factory Track.
Safety Focus:
Prioritize safety in all operations, consistently identifying and advocating for improvements in safety practices.
