Primary Function

AG&P’s Pipefitters lay out, fabricate, assemble, install and maintain piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, water, chemicals, lubrication and production and processing systems, per scope identified by AG&P’s clients.

Experience2-3 years experience as a Pipe Fitter

Specialized Knowledge

  • Proven capability in pipefitting of stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy piping components
  • Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the pipefitting field
  • Works under immediate supervision, typically reporting to a supervisor or manager
  • Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Applies shop mathematics to solve piping layout problems
  • Must be able to perform SMAW/Stik, and FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding).

Typical Duties

  • Process and/or pipe rack module pipefitting - shop fabrication
  • Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders according to job specifications
  • Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions
  • Plans and lays out sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers
  • Cuts pipe using best practice tooling
  • Installs pipe supports (hangers and brackets) on structural steel, walls, and ceilings
  • Assembles and installs a variety of metal or non-metal pipes and pipe fittings, using best practice techniques
  • Secures pipes to structures with bracket, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools
  • Installs and maintains fundamental process equipment, while working with other trades, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping
  • Tests piping systems for leaks per specifications and observes gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
  • Performs basic welding such as welding of pipe supports to structural steel members
  • Set-up and operation of oxyacetylene cutting equipment.
  • Follows safety protocols and maintains a safe working environment

Requirement Guides

Work Environment. Normal work environment will be shop or field which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.

Education. In addition to the above certifications, minimum educational requirements include a high school diploma, with vocational training preferred.

Communication Skills. Visual and hearing acuity required. Ability to understand verbal directions in English and effectively communicate to supervisors and fellow workers.

Mathematical Skills. Ability to apply concepts such as geometry for layout, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Pass a burning and blueprint reading test, perform structural layouts, and pass required project/client skills/weld testing.

Physical Demands. Must be physically fit work to work in construction and lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds of materials, supplies, or equipment. May have to work in confined spaces and at heights more than 200 feet off the ground while wearing full body harness and other required PPE. Frequent: standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, balancing, bending, squatting, climbing, and crawling, Ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required
