JOB SUMMARY
The CNC Late Programmer/Operator performs machining operations and is responsible to meet the daily production requirements. The programmer is expected to have a high-level knowledge of programming with FANUC control. This position is dedicated to getting the job done right the first time and promotes a safe work environment focused on overall continuous improvement and world-class manufacturing. This is a first shift position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following represents a list of essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned or re-assigned as the Manufacturing Facility expands.
- Operate machines in a safe manner.
- Creates two and three axis programs for lathes using FANUC manual guide.
- Uses collision avoidance features on capable machines whenever possible prior to executing programs.
- Check tooling, setups, program coordinates, and any other information to ensure a quality part.
- Make corrections as needed by editing the program.
- Make necessary notations for changes or corrections in the control.
- Provide timely information regarding problems in production that may adversely affect quality, delivery, or customer requirements.
- Make suggestions for further improvements in the program to shorten run times
- Analyze tooling, setups, and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
- Read and understand manufacturing drawings in order to classify them by part type and thickness.
- Loading and unloading heavy weldments in machines using overhead cranes and best rigging practices.
- Operation involves loading, unloading, and pre-positioning of work in fixtures, and checking of parts for conformity with dimensional specifications by use of fixed gauges, and calipers.
- Remain constantly alert to detect improper machining.
- Troubleshoot material issues as they arise.
- Work as part of the team to share ideas and improve operations, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards.
- Undertake continuous training and development.
- Other duties may be assigned as the department evolves.
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent experience in machine shop math.
- Two-year machining technology degree preferred.
- CNC part and fixture setup (steady rests, etc..)
- Be responsible for the programming and operation of multiple pieces and types of equipment (2 x 3-axis 6-meter flatbed Lathes, and other chipping equipment such as but not limited to radial drills and tapping-arm machines.)
- Read and understands blueprints/manufacturing drawings.
- Have a clear understanding of CNC G-codes for Fanuc controls.
- Following directions/instructions step-by-step. Has a working knowledge of speeds, feeds, and tooling.
- Inspect parts visually and mechanically for conformance to the print and process dimensions.
- Able to operate overhead cranes, and other lifting devices.
- Perform routine preventative equipment maintenance daily.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Consistent attendance is expected. Flexibility to respond to troubleshooting issues. The position is
predominately shop floor based, with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and odors may be present.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand at least 8+ hours per day. The employee will perform machining functions for long periods of time. Vision and use of hand dexterity for computer activities.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a regular Full-Time benefit eligible position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday-Friday,
6:00 am -2:30 pm, or an approved flex schedule related to the needs of the role.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent years of experience.
- Good computer skills.
- A person should have experience in CNC Operations, be deadline-oriented, and be able to time manage with a sense of urgency.
- Min 5 years’ experience programming lathes w/ FANUC control using manual guide.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Degree or certificate from an accredited university or technical institution
- Equipment Manufacturing background
- Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of mechanical equipment
- Proficiency with Okuma OSP turning.
