Controls Engineer

The Controls Engineer will collaborate closely with designers, project engineers, and cross-functional teams to design control systems for metal cutting, assembly, and testing equipment. These designs will integrate established standards, previous project experiences, and innovative solutions. In this role, you’ll work with internal teams—including mechanical engineers, project managers, and commissioning—as well as with external suppliers like control designers and panel builders. You'll engage with a diverse range of customers from multiple industries, including prominent automotive manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project management from initiation to final customer acceptance.
  • Reviewing customer specifications to design control systems for machines, covering electrical, fluid, and pneumatic components.
  • Developing software tailored to customer standards, adapting past projects, and creating new software solutions.
  • Ensuring high-quality designs are delivered on time and obtaining customer approval.
  • Reviewing and approving panel builds.
  • Assisting in machine build and debugging processes.
  • Providing on-site support, including customer meetings, site inspections, and installation assistance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven experience in designing controls hardware systems.
  • Proficiency with PLC and HMI development software.
  • Strong time management and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to interpret and follow customer specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in electrical and fluid power system design.
  • Experience collaborating with other controls engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with standards like NEC, IEC, CE, and UL508.
  • Ability to draft and follow engineering standards, review designs, and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Experience in conducting field checks on existing equipment.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of three years in controls engineering.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electronics Technology, or equivalent experience.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel for customer site visits and supplier interactions.
  • Possession of a valid U.S. passport for field-based startup and support activities.
