Licensed Practical Nurse Consultant (LPN)

Job Description

Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and the LPN Nurse consultant

will provide services, acting in the role of a consultant, including such services as:

training, testing, and occasional supervision of unlicensed personnel who are responsible

for the day to day direct care of developmentally disabled individuals (“Individuals”),

review of patient records, interpretation of medical orders, assessment of medical needs

and planning for the care of such Individuals. Nurse Consultant Services generally does

not include the provision of direct care to such Individuals.

The above definition of Nurse Consultant Services is intended to serve as a guideline

only for clarification of the Nurse Consultant role within the CLA context. It is not

intended as an exclusive role.

1. All Nurse Consultants assigned by FANCI to provide services shall be licensed by

the State of Maryland and shall perform their duties in compliance with applicable

laws and regulations, including, without limitation: the Maryland Nurse Practice

Act, ________________________________et. Seq. of the Maryland General

Statues;______________________ of the Maryland Regulations of State

Agencies; the Maryland Board of Examiners for Nursing Memorandum of

Decision in Re: Declaratory Ruling- Delegation by licensed nurses to Mental

Retardation Nursing Standard 97.1, Nurse Delegation to Unlicensed Personnel,

and DDA Medical Advisory #99-3, Interpretive Guidelines for the DMR/DDA

Regulations Concerning the Administration of Medication by certified unlicensed

personnel.


FANCI LPN Consultants will provide:

1. Health/nursing assessment for each new Individual admitted to a CLA within (30)

thirty days of such admission as assigned by the RN.

2. Written 45 days & quarterly nursing review for each Individual.

3. Written annual nursing review for each Individual’s OPS (annual overall plan of

service).

4. Participation as a member of the interdisciplinary team at all thirty-day post

admission conferences.

5. Participation as a member of the interdisciplinary team in all annual Individual

reviews.

6. Regular monitoring, including at least a quarterly review of Individual’s medical

& dental records and inquires of Individual’s and staff, to determine whether

direct care employees have obtained medical & dental examinations as

recommended by each Individual’s physician or dentist and to ensure that any

recommended treatment is being completed and correct follow-up is being done.

7. Monthly reviews of all physicians and dentist orders in each Individual’s record.

8. Consultations with CLA management on a regular basis to ensure the

implementation of nursing recommendations.

9. Ongoing review of any medical/medication incidents brought to the attention of

the DDNCS LPN Consultant to determine whether direct care staff has made

available adequate medical attention, as needed for the involved Individual(s) in

order to prevent and / or treat physical illness or injuries.

10. Ongoing review of any medical/medication incidents brought to the attention of

the DDNCS LPN Consultant to determine whether direct care staff notified the

Indivdual(s) physician immediately following a medical incident and/or adverse

reaction to medications.

11. Ongoing oversight to ensure the implementation of DDNCS Medication, Nursing

Delegation, and Medical/Nursing guidelines and policies.

12. Consultation with physicians, staff and Individuals on health related issues as

requested by staff.

All services provided with the direct ongoing supervision of a Registered Nurse.
