Mechanical Technician Level 1

Position Summary: Provide shop fabrication & periodic shipping/receiving support for a small business operating within the thermal processing industry using a variety of metallic and ceramic based materials and metal working equipment to produce high temperature application heating components and furnace systems.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and operate company vehicles.
- Work periods of extended shifts, typically 10 hours in duration or weekends during critical work evolutions
- Operate metal working equipment (lathes, mills, drills) & power tools
- Utilize quality measuring tools, i.e. calipers, micrometers, tape measures etc.
- Perform shipping/receiving functions including product packaging, skidding, material handling and tendering shipping paperwork.
- Operate fork truck and provide material handling support that involves slings and lifting apparatuses
- Keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly and perform routine, low-level preventative and corrective maintenance task on shop equipment and tools
- Ability to perform simple shop math: subtraction, addition, multiplication, conversions, division, geometry and algebra.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- H.S. degree or better
- Basic physical labor and mechanical skills and (hardware, hand tools, raw materials, fabrication)
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Perform physical labor up to a maximum of 90% of annual labor hours
- Remain on feet and move w/in Shop for a period of eight (8) hours with designated breaks
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, placement of materials on a routine basis, with weight of at 25 lbs
- Able to lift 50 lbs., climb a ladder to a height of 15+ feet above the ground and work in a safety harness.
- Ability to work comfortably and safely around power producing equipment & refractory
- Must be physically fit to qualify for and able to wear a respirator.
- Ability to work safely and professionally at customer facilities & work in confined spaces with elevated temperatures

- Able to receive daily guidance, instructions deemed necessary to achieve goals and maintain high productivity.
- Convey a sense of urgency concerning shop requirements.
- Willingness to learn several wide variety of tasks & work outside of normal duties
