This is a general summary of the responsibilities associated with the position of Quality Control Lab Technician in support of the EPA-Operations and Maintenance of the ORD-RTP Vivarium and Veterinary Services Contract. This description is not all-inclusive of the duties required to successfully complete the job daily. It is intended to reflect Team MPF's contractual obligations. Employees are expected to complete all assigned duties each day as directed by management.

Unless otherwise directed by Team MPF Management, all employees are expected to perform their duties during the work hours between 7:00am and 4:00pm (Monday through Friday).

Compensation: $23.50-$25 hourly

Employees are expected to be familiar with the day-to-day activities, workflow, personnel, and daily schedules within the facilities they are assigned. Team MPF expects each of our employees to be forward thinking and to create and assist in quality contract performance. The Quality Control Lab Technician will maintain an effective, positive and professional relationship with both contract and government staff. The primary duties for the Quality Control Lab Technician are listed below:

  • Provides review and revisions to project SOP's as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Communicates both verbally and electronically via email.
  • Collects and evaluates water samples.
  • Collects and evaluates samples taken on equipment, floors, walls, hallways, and other areas of the animal facility.
  • Receives incoming animals.
  • Performs veterinary technical procedures such as blood withdrawal and animal necropsies as needed.
  • Verifies scale weights and light timer accuracy.
  • Provide accurate RODAC plate readings.
  • Verifies efficacy on rack washers, tunnel washers, and autoclaves.
  • Mixes and changes sanitation chemicals in animal rooms.
  • Logs sample results electronically into a Share drive.
  • Changes feed and nectar in rodent traps throughout the animal facility.
  • Checks rodent traps for trapped animals within the animal facility.
  • Evidence of critical thinking skills (e.g. reviewing procedures, monitoring research staff for efficiency and uniformity in skill application)
  • All other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

The Quality Control Technician position must meet the following standards prior to appointment:

Education:

Associates of Arts Degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent experience. Continuing education in the field of laboratory animal regulatory, and/or veterinary technology/general veterinary medicine is supported.

Certification:

Employees should hold a current AALAS certification at the ALAT or be eligible to take exam within 1 year of employment.

Experience:

Must have prior experience in the laboratory animal field.
