Job Description

A Fitter specializes in fitting tubular structures and reading blueprints. Currently seeking skilled fitters to fabricate, fit, and assemble the structural components of various mechanical systems. To be successful as a fitter, you should be detail-oriented, focused, and adept at interpreting blueprints. Ability to safely use hand and power tools as well as demonstrate excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities
  • Fit, join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable materials by applying appropriate techniques in accordance with product specifications and production schedules.
  • Lay out and assemble subunits or units of materials which are then welded into position by welders.
  • Ensure the product is fitted to the specifications of each job and the outlined requirements consistent with production of quality UT passable welds.
  • Specialize in fitting transmission power poles, Substation A-Frames, High mast poles, Highway sign poles, and other tubular structures.
  • Read and comprehend complex blueprints, drawings, and chalk lines.
  • Adjust fitting based on the twist and camber of the pole.
  • Work on A1 Frames and 12-sided poles.
  • Set up equipment, organize, and layout workstation appropriately.
  • Use welding equipment such as torches, torch tips, and Air Arc.
  • Use temperature sticks and welding fillet gauges.
Essential Skills
  • 1 to 2 years of fitter experience
  • Overhead and crane experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex blueprints
  • Good with geometry (angles, degrees, pivot points)
  • Experience with flux core welding
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of a variety of welder concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Firm knowledge of welding symbols, welding diagrams, blueprints/shop drawings, and other printed instructional material
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed

Work Environment

Heavy Industrial Steel Manufacturing facility. COLD/HOT depending on the time of year. Non-Climate Controlled. Working every other weekend. Guaranteed 50 hours per week, usually working 60 hours.

The pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $59280.00
