Job Description -
The Clinical Nurse (CN) is a Registered Nurse (RN) who provides direct patient care, adhering to evidence-based practices within the guidelines of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The CN performs all steps of the nursing process, including patient assessment, data interpretation, care planning, implementation, and evaluation. They coordinate care with other providers and educate patients and families on managing their care and preventing complications. The CN collaborates with the patient’s family to deliver family-centered care and monitors the quality of nursing care provided. They are responsible for their professional development, including maintaining licensure, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and staying current with knowledge about their patient population. As a member of the nursing profession, the CN contributes to the field through teaching and sharing expertise within the unit or hospital.
Responsibilities
- Healing Environment: Create and maintain a healing environment by being present for the patient and family, managing discomforts, providing emotional support and information, and guiding them through illness and recovery or end-of-life stages according to the patient’s goals and culture.
- Patient Strengths: Mobilize the patient’s strengths and abilities to participate in recovery and control their care plan.
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Obtain and interpret accurate assessment data, determine nursing diagnoses, and monitor and evaluate data based on patient stability.
- Care Planning: Collaborate with the patient, family, and healthcare team to develop individualized care plans, implement nursing and medical interventions safely, and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Education: Assess the learning needs and readiness of patients and families, provide necessary information for self-care and illness prevention, and adjust information based on patient responses, developmental levels, and cultural variations.
- Teaching: Educate other staff members through incidental teaching or formal roles such as preceptor or super-user.
- Emergency Response: Quickly identify and respond to problem situations, activating emergency protocols when necessary.
- Safety and Compliance: Monitor personal and others’ practices for patient and employee safety and compliance with standards and policies, seeking continual improvement in patient care and the work environment.
- Task Management: Integrate multiple requests and work expectations by setting priorities, delegating tasks appropriately, and seeking assistance as needed.
- Team Building: Participate in unit programs and meetings, contribute to positive morale, and use effective conflict resolution skills.
- Technology Use: Utilize available technology for communication, documentation, and accessing information on clinical situations, diagnoses, and treatments.
- Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to the knowledge and skills of other nursing staff through teaching, participation in Shared Governance groups, professional publications, and presentations.
- Lifelong Learning: Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and maintain knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice.
- Communication: Communicate effectively in various formats across all areas of practice.
- Leadership: Demonstrate leadership in professional practice settings and the nursing profession.
- Self-Evaluation: Evaluate personal nursing practice against professional standards, guidelines, and relevant regulations.
MINMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited academic institution. (preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse
- BLS - Basic Life Support
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Experience
- One year of relative experience in Gynecology
- Quick on their feet
- Experience with Moderate Sedation
- In Basket triage
- Hands on and involved in procedures
- Lidocaine draws
