Job Summary:

The Press Operator ensures the efficient and accurate operation of printing press equipment while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity. This role involves leading press operations, resolving discrepancies, supervising Second Press Operators, and adhering to ISO procedures and company policies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work Order Management:

    • Review, comprehend, and execute work orders with precision, addressing and resolving discrepancies promptly.

  • Production Efficiency:

    • Collaborate with manufacturing management to meet production goals, maximize customer satisfaction, and maintain profitability.

  • Data Accuracy:

    • Use and maintain proficiency in the data collection system, ensuring consistency and compliance with quality documentation.

  • Press Operations:

    • Prepare press equipment based on the production schedule.
    • Monitor color quality and notify management of errors or violations.
    • Ensure the press is properly maintained, with thorough documentation of all maintenance activities.

  • Supervisory Duties:

    • Direct and train the Second Press Operator/Press Helper, ensuring their tasks are performed accurately and efficiently.
    • Oversee sample inspections, press operations, and accurate documentation of print and waste information.

  • Materials Management:

    • Manage resources efficiently, minimizing waste, and ensuring press supplies are readily available.
    • Track paper usage, including slab waste and damaged rolls, during production.

  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety protocols, including proper PPE use and safe chemical handling.
    • Comply with ISO procedures and actively participate in department training programs.

  • Other Duties:

    • Assist in other departments or on varying presses as needed.
    • Work additional hours based on production demands.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Education & Experience:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Previous experience in a printing environment is mandatory.

  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Excellent vision with color perception.
    • Strong dexterity and ability to safely operate machinery (fork truck/clamp truck experience preferred; training available).
    • Leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to train and supervise others.
    • Problem-solving and effective communication skills.

  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to remain alert and active during 12-hour shifts.
    • Capable of repetitive physical tasks, including standing, bending, walking, and lifting up to 60 lbs.
    • Comfortable working in a noisy environment with moving machinery (PPE provided).

Work Environment:

This role involves working in a fast-paced manufacturing setting with exposure to loud noises, moving machinery, and potentially hazardous materials. The operator must adhere to all safety regulations and procedures to ensure a secure work environment.
