Hiring Landscapers - $31.04/hr at local San Diego Hospital
Description:
GROUNDS / LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE (80%)
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools such as: mowers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, chain saws, rakes, shovels, hoes, brooms and other related landscape maintenance tools. Maintain tools and equipment in clean and safe working order. Use assigned tools and power equipment in a safe and prescribed manner, avoiding injury, misuse, breakage or loss.
- Trim, edge, mow, fertilize, renovate and aerate turf areas; irrigate, feed, and mulch around trees, shrubs and hedges; trim and prune small trees, shrubs and hedges. Weed, prune, hedge, rake, blow, sweep, mulch and fertilize landscaped areas.
- Water turf, shrubs and other groundcover using appropriate manual or automatic systems or hoses when necessary. Maintain irrigation systems in efficient working order; perform minor irrigation repairs, adjustments and retrofitting. Occasionally perform irrigation valve repairs and maintenance. Create irrigation schedules and program irrigation controllers in adherence with horticultural and water conservation requirements.
-Perform daily trash and debris pick-up in assigned areas.
-Power wash sidewalks (ensuring that water and pollutants are prevented from entering storm drains in compliance with EPA standards) and/or shovel mud and debris from walkways, roads, porches and outdoor terraces in order to maintain a safe and clean campus environment. Ensure storm drain maintenance prior to and during inclement weather.

-Correct and/or report hazardous conditions to lead person or appropriate supervisor.
-Recognize and report pests and diseases that may be harmful to plant materials and turf areas. Understand and perform Integrated Pest Management (IPM) procedures.
-Test and analyze soil conditions to determine irrigation and horticultural requirements.
-Fertilize landscaped area with various spreaders. Calculate and determine application needs.
Load, unload, move and carry landscape maintenance related supplies and equipment. Assist other Landscape Services specialty teams as needed.
- Drive a UCSD vehicle to transport a variety of landscape maintenance power equipment, machinery, tools and related materials needed in landscape maintenance duties. Use good judgment and knowledge of safe driving practices in the operation of the vehicle.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- 6+ months of landscaping/groundskeeper experience
- Must be reliable
- Must have great attitude, show initiative
- standing/crawling/bending for duration of shift
- Ability to lift 20-50 lbs
