Virtual School Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Location: Illinois (Virtual/Remote)
Position Type: Full-time, Next School Year Contract Opportunity
Pay: $38/Hour
As a Virtual School Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), you will play a crucial role in providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments enrolled in our virtual school program. You will work collaboratively with students, families, and other educators to ensure that each student receives an inclusive and tailored educational experience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments, in collaboration with the student, families, and multidisciplinary team.
- Provide direct instruction and support in areas such as braille literacy, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and adaptive skills.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to meet the diverse learning needs of students with visual impairments.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate students' educational progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and other stakeholders to ensure the integration of students with visual impairments into the general education curriculum.
- Provide ongoing consultation and support to families regarding strategies for supporting their child's learning and development.
- Stay current on best practices, research, and resources in the field of visual impairment education.
- Participate in professional development activities and team meetings as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education with a specialization in Visual Impairments, or a related field.
- Valid Illinois teaching license with endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
- Experience working with students with visual impairments in a virtual or remote setting preferred.
- Proficiency in braille literacy, adaptive technology, and other specialized instructional techniques for students with visual impairments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to providing inclusive and equitable education for students with disabilities.
