Description:
Are you ready to transform lives through accessible education? As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, you'll empower students to overcome barriers and reach their potential. By fostering independence, academic achievement, and self-confidence, youll shape a brighter future for every student you serve.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, including functional vision evaluations, to determine students educational and developmental needs.
- Design and deliver personalized learning plans aligned with IEP goals and state standards.
- Teach Braille, tactile learning methods, and orientation and mobility (O&M) skills in collaboration with specialists.
- Develop and implement lessons using adaptive tools such as screen readers, magnifiers, and Braille notetakers.
- Provide consultation to teachers, staff, and families to ensure consistency in educational practices.
- Support students in mastering self-advocacy and independent living skills.
- Stay informed on advancements in assistive technologies and advocate for their integration into classroom instruction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Education with specialization in Visual Impairments.
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
- Proficiency in Braille and assistive technology.
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility techniques (certification preferred).
- Ability to develop strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
