Position Overview:
As a Creative Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in bridging communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and their peers, educators, and staff. Your unique approach to interpretation will enhance the educational experience, making learning engaging and accessible.

Job Description:

  • Full School Year
  • Full-Time
  • Onsite only

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time interpretation of classroom instruction, discussions, and activities in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
  • Collaborate with teachers to adapt lessons and materials to support visual learning.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere, encouraging peer interactions.
  • Utilize creative techniquessuch as storytelling, role-playing, and visual aidsto enhance understanding and engagement.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of personalized communication strategies for students.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and technologies in deaf education and interpretation.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (RID, NAD, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with a strong understanding of both languages' cultural nuances.
  • Experience working in an educational setting, particularly with children or adolescents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit.
  • Passion for promoting inclusivity and advocating for the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Must have an AA, AS, or AAS Degree or a passing ParaPro Score
