Location: SD-Rapid City - Engineering Design Center
Remote Possibility: Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, flexible start times (Core hours 8am-3pm MST)
Estimated Duration: 24 months
 

Export Controls Required: Yes
Assets Provided: Caterpillar will provide necessary assets
Interview Process: Virtual interviews, one round with multiple interviewers

Job Description:

The primary role of the Mechanical Engineer is to research, investigate, and design mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes, with a focus on hydraulics. The engineer will be responsible for creating engineering drawings and interpreting blueprints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test mechanical devices such as tools, engines, and machines, with an emphasis on hydraulics.
  • Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to assess project feasibility in terms of time and cost.
  • Assist drafters with structural designs using tools, equipment, or engineering software.

Required Skills:

  • Creativity, strong verbal and written communication skills, and solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Team-oriented and detail-focused.
  • Proficiency in making sketches, engineering drawings, and performing common calculations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports, especially hydraulic schematics.
  • Experience with CAD software related to the engineering field, such as Creo or SolidWorks.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in the field, with at least 1 year of experience in hydraulics.
  • Experience with CAD software (preferably Creo) and print reading is required.
  • Manufacturing experience is desired.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in hydraulics.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Disqualifiers:

  • Candidates with 15+ years of experience or a Master's degree will not be considered.
