Position: Special Education Teacher

Location: Utica, MI

Job Summary:

Soliant Education is looking for a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join a dynamic educational team in Utica, Michigan. The Special Education Teacher will work with students who have diverse learning needs, developing and implementing individualized educational plans (IEPs) and providing support to ensure academic success. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with disabilities and a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on the specific needs of students with disabilities.
  • Provide specialized instruction to students with various disabilities, including learning disabilities, autism, and emotional/behavioral disorders.
  • Adapt teaching methods, materials, and assessments to meet the needs of students in both general and special education settings.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies as needed to ensure academic growth.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff to implement effective instructional strategies for students with special needs.
  • Work closely with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress and suggest strategies for support at home.
  • Assist in creating a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that promotes learning and social development.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to help students meet their academic, social, and behavioral goals.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, student assessments, and other meetings to discuss student progress and any necessary adjustments.
  • Provide behavioral and emotional support to students, promoting positive behavior management techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' academic performance, IEP goals, and behavioral progress.
  • Attend school meetings and professional development sessions as required.
  • Promote self-advocacy and independence in students, teaching them skills to manage their learning and behaviors.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education (or related field).
  • Valid Michigan state certification for Special Education.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly in an educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of IEP development, accommodations, and modifications for students with special needs.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and provide individualized support based on each student's learning style and needs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage challenging behaviors in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Organizational skills to keep track of multiple IEPs, assessments, and progress reports.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team in a collaborative educational environment.
  • Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively and foster a supportive learning atmosphere.
