 Payroll Specialist Job Description Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000 
Job Summary: 
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, 
accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. Duties will include onboarding new employees, 
administering pay, benefits, and leave, enforcing company policies and practice, and offboarding employees. 
Duties/Responsibilities: 
 Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees’ 
hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, 
deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information. 
 Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other 
deductions. 
 Reconciles payroll to the general ledger system and keeps all schedules clean. 
 Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of 
payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. 
Required Skills/Abilities: 
 Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes. 
 Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
 Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 
Education and Experience: 
 Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field required. 
 Three to five years of related experience required. 
Physical Requirements: 
 Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
 Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay 
rates. 
 Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. 
 Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices. 
 Assists with audits by providing records and documentation to auditors. 
 Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures. 
 Onboards new hires and offboards terminations. Conducts or acquires background checks and employee 
eligibility verifications. 
 Create and maintain accurate records for employees file in compliance with state and federal laws.
