Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Job Description
Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate on a daily, weekly, monthly, or as-needed basis. Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting. Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics. Ensure that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples, and collaboration with other laboratories is prohibited prior to reporting proficiency testing results to the appropriate agencies. May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups, from newborns to geriatrics. Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures. Adhere to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources. In the absence of a supervisor, may be assigned or identified as Lead Tech/General Supervisor, having responsibility for the section or department during their shift. May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC. Additional tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

- Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science (Medical Lab Science or Medical Technology) or related BS from an accredited college.
- Meet the education and certification requirements for licensure and possess a valid General Supervisor license from the State of Nevada or be eligible to work while the license is pending.
- Minimum of 3 years working in a clinical laboratory.
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
- Ability to work and problem-solve independently.
- Flexibility to work any shift as needed.
- ASCP, CLS, CLS II certifications.
- Knowledge of CLIA, NAC 652.420, and NAC 652.410 regulations.
The department is a full-service, rapid response lab with a 42-bed Emergency Department. The lab serves Oncology, the Medical Group, Outsourcing to LabCorp, and Surgery. Shifts include graveyard shifts from Friday-Sunday 6pm-6:30am, and Tuesday-Thursday 8pm-6:30am. Consistent shifts are offered, but the ideal candidate will be flexible for emergency situations. The location is in Reno, with nearby attractions including Lake Tahoe, Virginia City, Mt. Rose Ski Resort, and Pyramid Lake. Prime Healthcare offers a full coverage medical, dental, and vision program with co-pays only.
