Location: Valdosta, Georgia
Position Type: Full-Time
Overview: Valdosta City Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing exceptional educational support and instruction to students with diverse learning needs. This position involves developing individualized education plans (IEPs), delivering tailored instruction, and collaborating with parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure each students success.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide direct instruction to students in a variety of settings, including resource rooms, inclusive classrooms, and self-contained classrooms.
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials and teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Assess students abilities and progress through formal and informal assessments.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, school administrators, and other special education staff to support students' learning and inclusion.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Participate in professional development and training programs to stay current with best practices in special education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Georgia teaching certificate in Special Education (P-12) [T-4] or higher.
- Experience working with students with a range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and developmental delays.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Additional certifications or endorsements in specific areas of special education (e.g., Autism, Behavior Intervention).
- Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
- Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification in Special Education General Curriculum (P-12) or a related field.
- Passing scores on the required Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) exams for Special Education.
- Completion of a state-approved educator preparation program.
- Clear background check and fingerprinting as required by Valdosta City Schools.
