Usability Specialist

Robert Half is recruiting on behalf of a global e-commerce enterprise seeking a Sr. Usability Specialist to enhance health services interfaces and environments. This role focuses on creating intuitive, customer-centric digital and physical experiences while establishing a comprehensive usability research program. The ideal candidate has significant expertise in usability testing and user research, particularly within prototype environments, and excels in collaborative, fast-paced settings.
Location: Santa Clara, CA (onsite)
Duration: 3-month contract
Pay Rate: $90-95/hour
Hours: 40 hours/week
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and document best practices for conducting usability tests across digital and physical environments, creating a detailed usability toolkit.
- Advocate for usability best practices across teams, ensuring a consistent focus on user-centered design.
- Conduct a range of user experience studies aligned with business goals, including usability tests, contextual inquiries, cognitive walkthroughs, surveys, and heuristic evaluations.
- Create test materials, define success criteria, and lead usability studies from start to finish.
- Analyze research findings and deliver actionable insights to product and design teams.
- Collaborate with designers to refine wireframes and prototypes, ensuring usability recommendations are effectively implemented.
- Establish and oversee ongoing research cycles, including bi-weekly usability evaluations and long-term (6-12 week) research and implementation projects.
- Manage in-house research programs, gathering feedback from employees to inform UI and environmental improvements.
- Conduct programmatic research to provide continuous insights into user interactions with digital interfaces and physical spaces.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Cognitive or Social Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in user research and usability studies, with a demonstrated ability to lead projects in prototype environments.
- Expertise in planning and executing various usability research methods, including task analyses, structured interviews, and heuristic evaluations.
- Familiarity with tools including Figma and Quip (required)
- Strong understanding of legal and data privacy considerations in usability research and design.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings in a clear and actionable manner.
- Collaborative mindset, thriving in small, multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and drive clarity in ambiguous situations.
Preferred Skills:
- Deep understanding of user workflows and a passion for creating seamless user experiences.
- Proven ability to establish consistent usability research programs across digital and physical domains.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
