Staff Accountant

LHH Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a Conshohocken, PA-based Utility Construction Company to seek a self-directed and experienced Staff Accountant. This role involves managing all aspects of financial reporting to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year-end audit preparation. The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Controller.
Salary: $75-$90k
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and working papers.
- Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information according to corporate schedules and meet all financial reporting deadlines.
- Prepare and report on variance analysis and trends, determine root causes, and drive corrective actions with appropriate groups.
- Work closely with the operations management team to support accurate financial reporting and forecasting.
- Collaborate with other finance team members to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Monitor and analyze work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Work with the Controller on the preparation of schedules and monitor compliance with company processes and procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance departmental workflow.
- Provide training and support to new and existing staff as needed.
- Support the Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
- BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting.
Technical Skills and Prior Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in financial reporting/general ledger.
- Experience working in a professional services firm (public accounting) is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of standard margins, variance, and cost analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work under limited supervision.
