Special Education Teacher

Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our educational institution in the Augusta, Georgia area for the upcoming school year. As a Special Education Teacher, you will have the rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students with special needs. You will work closely with students, parents, and a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), provide specialized instruction, and create a supportive learning environment that fosters academic and personal growth.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on students' specific needs and abilities
- Provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning challenges, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral disorders
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to engage students and facilitate learning
- Adapt curriculum materials and modify teaching methods to accommodate individual learning styles and abilities
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to promote inclusion and ensure effective implementation of accommodations and modifications
- Assess student progress, collect data, and maintain accurate records to monitor and track individual goals and objectives
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and collaborate on strategies for supporting student learning at home
- Conduct and participate in multidisciplinary meetings, including IEP meetings, to discuss student progress, goals, and necessary modifications
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes social-emotional development, self-advocacy, and independence
- Stay current on best practices and research-based strategies in special education, and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Special Education or a related field
- Valid Georgia teaching certification in Special Education or ability to obtain certification before the start of the school year
- Experience working with students with special needs is highly desirable
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and procedures, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
- Strong understanding of various learning disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral disorders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and a multidisciplinary team
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching methods to meet individual students' needs
- Organizational skills to effectively manage paperwork, documentation, and data collection associated with IEPs
- Technological proficiency for utilizing assistive technology and educational software
