Are you a passionate and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter seeking a rewarding opportunity to empower a Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) middle school student by facilitating effective munication within the classroom and school environment?

Soliant Education is seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in the vibrant Sparks, Nevada area This full-time, in-person position for the 2024-2025 school year offers a unique chance to make a significant impact on the life of a DHH student by providing exceptional interpreting services and fostering their academic success and social inclusion.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide clear, accurate, and culturally appropriate sign language interpretation for a 1:1 middle school student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) across all academic subjects and classroom settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, administrators, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to the student's education and social integration.
  • Utilize various interpreting techniques, including transliteration, sign language interpreting, and cued speech, to adapt munication depending on the situation and the student's needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to professional ethics for sign language interpreters.
  • Advocate for the DHH student's educational needs and promote inclusive practices within the school munity.
  • Stay current on best practices in sign language interpreting for educational settings and emerging technologies that can enhance munication access.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to refine your skills and knowledge in supporting the success of DHH students.

This full-time position allows you to play a vital role in supporting the munication needs and academic success of a DHH middle school student. Qualifications:

  • National Certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent state certification.
  • Prior experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting, particularly with middle school students, is highly preferred.
  • Strong fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of Deaf culture.
  • Excellent munication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with the DHH student, parents, teachers, administrators, and other school staff.
  • Proficiency in interpreting various academic subjects and adapting munication for different classroom settings.
  • A passion for advocating for DHH students and promoting inclusive practices in education.
