Job Summary:

Are you looking to leverage your considerable experience and knowledge to elevate accounting operations with a hard-working team at an established company? As Accountant, you will be responsible for preparing financial reports, performing research and analysis, maintaining the general ledger, performing account reconciliations, assisting with audit preparations, and to support the Controller in the leadership of the accounting team. Fresh Origins is the leading producer of microgreens and edible flowers for food service and retail customers across North America.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead Month end close, financial reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow), general ledger functions, inventory, taxes, and audits.
  • Produce and document all journal entries required for the close process including prepaid expense amortization, inventory entries and other scheduled journal entries
  • Responsible for bank reconciliations and account reconciliation schedules
  • Assists in producing error-free accounting reports and presenting their results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
  • Provide input into department's goal setting process
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and support the production of the budget according to schedule
  • Responsible for filing of sales tax returns and property tax returns
  • Assist with sales tax audits and property tax audits
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
  • Participate in periodic physical inventory counts and reconciliations
  • Assist accounts payable with preparation and approval of annual 1099's for vendors
  • Other duties as assigned

Leadership Skills:

  • Provide oversight over the accounts receivable and accounts payable close processes: verifying, ensuring all allocations are up to date, posting and reconciling accounts receivables and payables
  • Liaise with Assistant Controller and Controller to improve financial procedures
  • Provide employees with suggestions in handling difficult or complex problems or in resolving escalated complaints or disputes
  • Discuss work schedules, deadlines, and duty assignments to team
  • Communicate work procedures and company policies to staff
  • Train or instruct employees in job duties or company policies or request for training to be provided
  • Assist in the work of team to facilitate productivity or to overcome difficult aspects of work
  • Engaging in ongoing educational opportunities to update job knowledge

Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
  • 3-5+ years accounting experience
  • NetSuite ERP (A MUST)
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus
  • Proven experience as accounting supervisor or senior accountant
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Familiarity with financial accounting statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, like Net Suite
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including vlookups and pivot tables
  • High level of accuracy and keen attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
  • Ability to effectively convey information
  • Ability to analyze, apply logic and creatively resolve complex issues
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
