We are in search of a Sr. Accountant to join our team based in Annapolis, Maryland. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to our finance department by performing a variety of accounting and finance job duties. The position serves as a lead for the Accounting Team and offers a chance to grow in the accounting field. This is a contract to hire employment opportunity.


Responsibilities:

• Lead the Accounting Team and assist with the establishment and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.

• Prepare company compliance audits and close quarterly books.

• Compile and analyze financial reports, reconcile financial statements, and prepare journal entries.

• Complete balance sheet and manage banking and investing accounting functions.

• Reconcile grant funding accounts, schedules, and post company payroll.

• Maintain accurate documentation and records for back-up.

• Engage in special projects and other duties as required.

• Assist in the annual financial reporting and preparation of audited financial statements.

• Use Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet accounting software to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

• Conduct account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and bank reconciliations.

• Applicant must hold a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role as a Sr. Accountant

• Proficiency in Account Reconciliation, Balance Sheet Reconciliation, and Bank Reconciliations is essential

• Familiarity with General Ledger management and Journal Entries is required

• Applicant should possess advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

• Experience in Month End Close procedures is necessary

• Must have experience in Annual Financial Reporting and preparation of Annual Audited Financial Statements

• Ability to Analyze Financial Statements proficiently is expected

• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities are required

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential

• A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field is required

• Proficiency in using accounting software and databases is necessary

• Applicant should have a strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices

• Familiarity with laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to the accounting and finance industry is essential

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are required.
