Food Service Worker

As a Food Service Worker, you will assemble tray carts of patient lunch and dinner meal trays for patient care units utilizing information from patient selections and diet orders. You will also customize patient meal trays with requested items before delivering them to patient care units.
Responsibilities- Set up patient food service stations on the tray-line for breakfast meal trays according to tally sheets or established par levels and assist in the assembly of patient breakfast trays.
- Deliver meal trays and snacks to patients on assigned units, replace missing items, offer alternative selections for patients on regular diets, check with the Hospitality Service Office for restricted diets, refill beverages and condiments from the hospitality cart, and inform unit-nursing staff of refused trays, missing trays, or patients not in room.
- Retrieve meal trays from patients' rooms and patient care unit kitchens, ensuring no personal items are left on the tray, strip food carts and breakfast meal trays, sort and rinse dishes and silverware in preparation for washing, and assist in washing breakfast dishes/trays.
- Deliver menus to patients on assigned units, explain the menu process, assist patients in completing menu selections, recommend or offer alternative selections, ensure every patient has been contacted, and return completed menus and host round sheets to the Hospitality Service Office.
- Check with the Hospitality Service Office for new admissions or diet changes, take new menus and diet awareness cards to patients, and return with completed menus.
- Complete requests for and deliver NOW trays/meals, discharged trays, guest trays, and isolation trays, securing appropriate unit nursing staff sign-off before delivery.
- Inventory and stock the hospitality cart and/or hospitality basket, deliver bulk nourishments to units as requested, and provide clerical support to the Hospitality Service Office, including answering the telephone and following up on requests and problems communicated by the unit-based Hospitality team.
- Produce standard computer reports, including meal tallies, diet orders, nourishment labels, patient meal tray tickets, and patient menus using the computer system, and enter patient selections and appropriate special food preferences for patients on therapeutic diets.
- Attend and may assist in departmental in-services.
- Experience in food service, line cooking, and food preparation.
- Responsible for the preparation of quality foods for patients, employees, and guests.
- Ability to follow recipes and cooking instructions.
- Experience in cooking, line cook roles, food prep, and food service.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to be hired permanently by a major DC hospital. You will have access to hospital benefits and opportunities for raises based on excellent attendance and performance.
Work EnvironmentShifts: Need to be open to 1st and 2nd shifts. Start times range from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and end times range from 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM.
