Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating costs associated with structural steel projects, ensuring competitive pricing and profitability. The role involves analyzing project specifications, preparing material take-offs, sourcing prices from vendors, and collaborating with project managers and engineers to deliver comprehensive estimates.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and other documents to understand project requirements.
Perform material take-offs and quantify required materials accurately.
Source and obtain competitive pricing for materials and subcontractor services.
Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs.
Evaluate project scope and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to refine project estimates.
Maintain accurate records of estimates, including assumptions and methodologies used.
Participate in bid review meetings and provide insights on cost estimates.
Keep abreast of industry trends, materials costs, and construction methodologies to optimize estimates.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
Proven experience as a Structural Steel Estimator or similar role in the construction industry.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong understanding of structural steel materials, fabrication processes, and installation methods.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction blueprints and specifications.
Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
Advanced proficiency in estimating software and MS Office Suite.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
AutoCAD experience, a plus.
Professional certification (e.g., Certified Construction Estimator) is a plus.
Experience with project management software (e.g., Procore, Sage) is advantageous.
