Site Safety and Health Officer

Our client is seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to join our federal team in the Washington D.C. metro area, primarily supporting their teams based at the Fort McNair and Fort Myer military sites in Arlington, VA., US Army Corps of Engineers Safety & Health Requirements, as well as state and federal laws for the inspection of equipment and working conditions to prevent accidents, fires and related hazardous events
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Leadership: Lead all safety functions across multiple project sites, ensuring compliance with the JCFS Safety Programs, US Army Corps of Engineers Safety & Health Requirements, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Implementation of Safety Programs: Develop and execute Site/Task Specific Safety Programs, including tailored Accident Prevention Plans (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA) for each project.
- Training and Compliance: Conduct comprehensive safety training for onsite staff and subcontractors. Ensure all personnel understand and adhere to established safety protocols through regular compliance reviews.
- Expert Oversight: Serve as the Subject Matter Expert on key safety topics such as crane lifts, lockout/tagout, fall protection, trenching, scaffolding, and confined space operations. Authorize the procurement of essential safety supplies and equipment.
- Inspections and Investigations: Perform daily safety inspections to identify and rectify hazards, investigate accidents, and maintain necessary documentation, including OSHA Form 300.
- Collaboration: Foster strong relationships with government and subcontractor safety organizations and actively participate in the Office Safety Committee. Collaborate with site leadership to enhance the safety culture.
- Travel Requirements: Participate in occasional travel between sites within the region, as well as additional travel for startup and training as needed.
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience:
- 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety Class completed within the last 5 years, with ongoing safety training medium to large projects. (8 hours per year) or ability to obtain OSHA 30-hour certification within the first 30 days of employment.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in construction safety inspection and administration, particularly on large-scale projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Capacity to obtain and maintain required government security clearances through a background check.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, USACE safety regulations (EM-385-1-1), OR NAVFAC standards, and other safety guidelines. United states army corps of engineers. One of those two certifications in their background
- Experience in the implementation and oversight of safety programs in facilities operations and maintenance.
- Competent Person level trainer in key areas such as Fall Protection, Electrical, Confined Spaces, etc.
- A strong commitment to safety principles, including recognizing hazards and implementing controls to mitigate risks.
