ProCare Therapy is seeking a full-time Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to work in Portsmouth, VA, for the current school year. This role involves working 1:1 with an elementary or middle school student. The position is onsite only and requires an ASAP start as the school year is already in session.

Position Details:

  • Location: Portsmouth, VA
  • Employment Type: Contract
  • Position: Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • Start Date: ASAP (School is in session)
  • Student: 1:1 with elementary or middle school student
  • Work Type: Onsite only

License/Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following:
    • A valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III; or
    • A passing score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) Written Test along with a minimum of a Level 3.5 on the EIPA Performance Test.
  • Interpreters hired with a VQAS Level II, EIPA Level 3.0, or equivalent will have two years from the date of hire to meet the required qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 sign language interpreting services for a student in either elementary or middle school.
  • Facilitate communication between the student and teachers, peers, and other school staff.
  • Collaborate with the educational team to support the students learning and social integration.

Qualifications:

  • Must meet the licensure requirements listed above.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a school environment.
