Role Overview & Responsibilities
Are you a seasoned Special Education Teacher with a heart for supporting at-risk youth? Were looking for a dedicated and confident educator to join a unique school in Michigan, serving a very special group of students. With only 55 students enrolled, all placed by the court system and living in foster care, this is a rare opportunity to make a profound impact. Youll be working remotely with a transient population of students ages 14-18, many of whom have IEPs that are incomplete or require immediate attention. If you're passionate about trauma-informed teaching and confident in handling independent tasks, this role is perfect for you. Here's what to expect:

  • Full-Time Flexibility: Youll start with a heavier workload to set things up, and then taper down to 30 hours per week.
  • Caseload: Manage 38 students with IEPs, with 3 more students currently awaiting initial evaluations. Numbers will fluctuate throughout the school year.
  • IEP Mastery: Utilize PowerSchool and TIENet for IEP writing, ensuring compliance and progress for all students.
  • Foster Care Focus: Communicate effectively with foster parents, student advocates, and the school team to support a highly transient and vulnerable population.

Requirements

  • Licensure: Must have an active Michigan Special Education license.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year working with at-risk students, with a strong trauma-informed approach.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with PowerSchool and TIENet for IEP development is required.
  • Communication: Ability to collaborate confidently with a diverse team, including advocates, foster parents, and school personnel.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications.
