Fractional Chief Financial Officer

Scion Staffing, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to lead an immediate search for a Fractional Chief Financial Officer on behalf of our client, a reputable and people-centered accounting firm specializing in serving small businesses and nonprofit organizations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This full-time, hybrid role is available for immediate hire for qualified candidates based in the DMV area.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fractional Chief Financial Officer will lead and manage complex financial and accounting projects for the firm's nonprofit clients, ensuring accurate reporting and efficient financial processes while maintaining exceptional client service. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for driving positive change in the nonprofit sector through financial expertise and strategic leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage all finance functions, including accounting, internal controls, reconciliations, journal entries, payroll, and recurring financial operations for nonprofit clients.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members and managers by providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities to ensure a high-performing, collaborative work environment.
- Evaluate and deliver monthly financial reports for multiple clients with accuracy and timeliness.
- Foster lasting client relationships by delivering strategic insights and personalized guidance during scheduled meetings.
- Oversee accountants in monthly financial closings, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare business and personal tax returns, including tax estimates, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Offer proactive tax planning and strategic financial advice tailored to clients' needs.
- Advise clients on best practices for financial operations, including cash flow management and process improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelorâ?s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- CPA license or Enrolled Agent designation a plus. Â
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in the nonprofit sector with experience managing multiple clients.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting practices and proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
- Experience managing and mentoring teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities to address complex financial challenges.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective client and team interactions.
- Experience in a CPA firm or public accounting environment is a plus. Â
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This role offers a competitive salary of $150,000 to $200,000, plus a share of profitability, along with a comprehensive benefits package that prioritizes employee well-being and fosters professional development.
