LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client to hire a Payroll Specialist for a contract opportunity in Pleasant Hill, CA. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and processing payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. This role requires strong organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

 

PLEASE NOTE: You will perform all duties for this role at the client’s office in Pleasant Hill, CA.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Payroll Processing: Accurately process weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payroll for all employees, ensuring correct pay rates, hours worked, and deductions.

  • Compliance: Stay updated on federal, state, and local labor laws, ensuring payroll practices comply with applicable wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.

  • Employee Records: Maintain accurate and confidential employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, and benefit elections.

  • Deductions and Benefits: Administer payroll-related deductions (e.g., taxes, benefits, garnishments) and ensure that they are accurately reflected in each pay period.

  • Payroll Reporting: Generate and distribute regular and ad-hoc payroll reports, including earnings statements, tax forms (e.g., W-2s), and year-end reports.

  • Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies or concerns, working closely with employees and management to address inquiries and ensure timely resolutions.

  • Tax Filing: Ensure the accurate filing of payroll-related tax documents, including quarterly and annual filings for federal, state, and local agencies.

  • Process Improvement: Assist in streamlining payroll processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure that payroll is processed smoothly and aligned with organizational needs.

  • Recordkeeping: Maintain thorough records of all payroll transactions, reports, and correspondence for audit purposes and legal compliance.

  • Ad-Hoc Projects: Participate in special projects as required, including payroll audits, software upgrades, or other administrative tasks.Education:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).

  • Relevant payroll certification (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional - CPP) is a plus.

DESIRED BACKGROUND & SKILLS

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably in a mid-to-large-sized organization.

    • Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, or similar) and HRIS systems.

    • Strong understanding of payroll taxes, benefits administration, and compliance regulations (FLSA, IRS, state-specific payroll laws).

  • Skills:

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

    • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

    • Ability to troubleshoot issues and find practical solutions.

Pay Details: $25.00 to $29.00 per hour
