Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for coordinating all technical activities on assigned projects. He/she will plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate assigned engineering work, monitoring compliance with applicable codes, laws, accepted engineering practices, and our client's standards. This position ensures effective communication and coordination on assigned projects among all disciplines and project participants.
The Project Engineer is also responsible for ensuring that all assigned personnel coordinate their activities with other project participants and that the requirements of the contract are satisfied. While this position is not responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy of specific design details outside their qualifications, it is expected to possess sufficient technical knowledge to recognize when problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
This exempt position reports to the Vice President of Civil Engineering, who has ultimate responsibility for both the quality of our client's deliverables and the effective execution of project assignments. On large projects, the President may delegate certain project management responsibilities to the Project Engineer, including day-to-day interaction with clients or the client's representative. However, the Vice President of Civil Engineering retains overall accountability for relationship management and client satisfaction on the project.
Typical DutiesTypical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Project engineering schedules and forecasts
Coordination and checking of engineering deliverables
Monthly project status reports and change orders
Civil engineering calculations, plans, design, layout, and specifications
Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate the technical and management aspects of assigned projects.
Perform design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
Review shop drawings.
Direct and supervise drafting activities.
Accountable for the successful completion of assigned engineering projects.
Maintain regular contact with assigned project clients.
Participate in client/contractor meetings and resolve client, engineering, and management project issues.
Ensure effective engineering and client communications.
Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering design documents.
Perform field activities, such as observing and recording existing field conditions and taking measurements within the project area.
Capable and experienced in managing and performing projects in a fast-paced environment.
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of four (4) years of experience and/or holding an Engineer in Training License, or
Associate degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of six (6) years of experience and/or holding a Surveyor in Training License, or
Associate degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience, or
Ten (10) years of experience, or
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
AutoCAD proficiency
Advanced computer skills in the Microsoft Suite of products
Experience working with multiple discipline projects
Licensed Professional Engineer desirable
Occasional standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping or kneeling, talking and hearing, and using fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or controls.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Overtime may be necessary as workloads dictate, including weekdays, weekends, and/or holidays.
Job will generally be performed in an office environment but may require travel to client offices, production facilities, and/or industrial/construction job sites. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
May be assigned to work at a client's office, facility, or site for an extended period. Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
