Surgical Education Leader for Academic Excellence

The University of California San Francisco Department of Surgery seeks a highly accomplished Surgical Educator and leader to serve as the Vice Chair (VC) for Education. This key position will be responsible for overseeing all educational programs for students, residents, and ACGME fellowships within the Department.
Job SummaryThis is an outstanding opportunity for an individual with a strong background in surgical education and leadership to join our esteemed team at UCSF. The successful candidate will have significant experience in developing and implementing innovative educational programs, as well as a proven track record of scholarly activity in education research or curriculum design.
Responsibilities- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive educational programs for students, residents, and ACGME fellows
- Collaborate with Medical Student Clerkship, Residency, and Fellowship Program Directors to strengthen educational programs
- Oversee preclinical and clinical courses offered by Departmental faculty and work with colleagues across the University to advance surgical education locally and nationally
- Develop strategic plans for education within the Department, working closely with the Chair, doctorally prepared educator, and educational program leaders
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with the VC for Faculty Affairs and Development to promote faculty mentorship and professional development throughout the educational continuum
To be considered for this role, applicants must possess:
- A major educational leadership role in surgery, such as Clerkship Director, Program Director, Simulation Center Director, or VC of Education
- A strong history of scholarly activity in education research or curriculum design
- Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
- A Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in a relevant field
The minimum base salary range for this position is $184,700 - $393,200. The University of California offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, and access to on-campus amenities.
