As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, your role will involve executing all Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET/CT) procedures in accordance with established protocols to ensure high-quality patient care. You will be encouraged to pursue ongoing education and stay updated on advancements in the field and emerging procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
(75%) Patient Imaging Duties
- Conducts routine and advanced PET/CT procedures on specified body areas to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating patient conditions with minimal supervision.
- Evaluates patients prior to procedures for any necessary precautions or contraindications.
- Communicates effectively with patients, explaining the PET/CT procedures, positioning them appropriately, and providing support throughout the process.
- Adjusts scanning parameters as needed, employing dose reduction techniques where applicable.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with radiologists, referring physicians, and colleagues.
- Assesses, prepares, records, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission and departmental policies.
- Administers fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) intravenously to patients.
- Exhibits knowledge of safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment, integral to quality patient care.
- Reports any contamination incidents to the Radiation Safety Officer.
- Maintains accurate patient records within the Radiology Information System (RIS).
- Ensures compliance with ACR toolkit and accreditation standards.
(20%) Imaging Support Responsibilities
- Performs routine maintenance on PET/CT scanners and mobile units.
- Conducts and documents daily quality control checks on equipment to ensure proper functionality.
- Completes scheduled quality control procedures on PET/CT equipment to meet ACR and AOA guidelines.
- Troubleshoots equipment issues when possible and reports findings to the supervisor.
- Conducts departmental surveys to ensure adherence to radiation safety standards as per regulatory requirements.
(5%) Additional Duties
Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
