Job Title: Medical Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team at Anne Arundel Dermatology in Knoxville. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our dermatologists in their daily operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and confirm their identity and medical history.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
  • Organize patient flow and ensure a smooth and efficient experience for our patients.
  • Prepare procedure trays, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
  • Prepare and send lab specimens to the correct laboratory, as directed by the patient's insurance plan.
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Check and respond to nurse lines and to-do lists.
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory all equipment and instruments according to schedule.
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard expired supplies, and keep accurate records.
  • Maintain infection control and ensure that supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
  • Order, sort, restock, and inventory all supplies.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients and thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable.
  • Administer anesthesia and injections for procedures.
  • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.
Qualifications:
  • Able to triage patient problems and provide effective solutions.
  • Familiar with and compliant with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Knowledge of office financial policies.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with EMR utilization.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment, including computers, faxes, copiers, and scanners.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and courteously with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to spell, sort, and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.
Licensure/Certifications/Education:
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or completion of a bachelors degree program in the pre-med or pre-physicians assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.
