About the Role
For Our Future Michigan is in search of a Regional Advocacy Coordinator to spearhead a dynamic issue advocacy and electoral organizing initiative. The Regional Advocacy Coordinator will be tasked with recruiting, training, and overseeing a regional organizing team focused on local and national causes, candidates, and campaigns. This role will also involve executing the statewide field strategy, political organizing, and managing a volunteer operation within the Oakland/Macomb region.
This position demands creativity and adaptability due to the high-output nature and mission of our organization. Ideal candidates will possess a strong commitment to teamwork, exceptional organizational skills, effective time management, and the ability to handle multiple shifting priorities, along with a meticulous attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise canvassers, volunteers, and organizers.
- Oversee comprehensive volunteer recruitment, training, and program management.
- Track metrics within each assigned region, including attempts per shift, flake rate, conversation rate, and action conversion rate; implement rigorous systems to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly goals are achieved and surpassed.
- Collaborate with in-state leadership to introduce new communication and digital strategies within the region.
- Establish vital relationships with leaders in the progressive community and act as the regional lead for our partnership initiatives.
- Represent the organization at community events and meetings as directed.
- Provide extensive coaching and develop best practices for organizing, canvassing, recruitment, and retention.
- Conduct daily training sessions, including launching and debriefing at the start and end of daily shifts.
- Ensure all required reporting is accurate and timely, with all regional data entered punctually.
- Guide the evaluation of proposed events by organizers, monitor progress, facilitate logistics, and ensure successful community engagement and organization-building events in coordination with the Communications Department.
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
- 1-2 cycles of competitive campaign or advocacy experience.
- 2+ years of experience managing a team and achieving competitive field goals.
- 2+ years of experience working with volunteers.
- 2+ years of relationship-based organizing and leadership development experience, including one-on-one meetings and team building.
- Access to reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record.
- Experience in implementing a statewide field plan tailored to a specific region.
- Strong knowledge of Vote builder/VAN.
- Ability to outreach and build partnerships with other progressive organizations.
- Experience managing programs that develop the capacity to meet metrics-based goals on data-driven campaigns.
- Experience supporting media and communications programming is preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage, coach, and train staff.
- Basic computer literacy; access to a reliable laptop is preferred.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours in a high-output, metrics-driven environment.
Work Environment
This role involves door-to-door canvassing and site-based events/training, which are essential functions of our organization. Employees may be required to work in various weather conditions, including rain, heat, and cold. This position requires regular face-to-face interaction with voters, volunteers, and community partners. If external factors limit in-person engagement, employees may be assigned alternative duties to be conducted remotely.
